Amristar is proud to congratulate one of our own!
Jacob’s efforts have received high accolades at the SSSC Official Dinner where the Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards (APSEA) were presented. Jacob is the 2012 winner of the “Student of the Year – Postgraduate” award. This was presented to him for his innovative work in location based services. His project title was:
“A Location Based Services Framework to Enhance Positioning and Usage”.
The SSSI Newsletter announcing Jacob’s award reads:
Through his research, Jacob was able to design a framework that integrates a range of positioning methods including indoor positioning and a new form of IP-based positioning, that adapts to the usability of users and brings this together in a social interaction environment.
This framework was implemented in a prototype supporting IP and WiFi positioning, social networking and interactive web-mapping, and was tested in a live environment with real users over a period of time.
The prototype involved the implementation of a LBS system which monitors user interaction, location and context to build up individual user profiles for user modelling.
If you would like to read the final draft of similar work you can refer to his article on Design of a Web-based LBS Framework Addressing Usability, Cost, and Implementation Constraints.
Jacob gained eligibility for this award by successfully winning the award for West Australia in May 2012.
He recently flew from Perth, where he resides, to Canberra for the SSSI Conference to attend the Official Dinner. He had no idea he was going to win the award, and we all learned last night by SMS from a very deserving and pleasantly surprised Jacob.
Gefeliciteerd (Congratulations) Jacob.
